ARTIST STATEMENT
As a performer I strive for impeccable
actions. As an artist I search for pure expression. As a teacher I look
for new lessons.
I grew up as an athlete, competing professionally in both tennis and
racquetball until the age of nineteen in my home country of Colombia.
I started traveling within Colombia for national tennis competitions
at the age of 8. This experience filled me with confidence and discipline.
My desire to compete vanished when I started to contemplate my existence
and realized ART as a must. I quickly moved in that direction, to find
out my parents wanted something different for me a “Real Career”.
While studding Psychology and Social Communications in the Universidad
del Norte I got involved with their physical theater troop, directed
by: Manuel Sanchez. http://luneta50.org.co/index_mainP.html
How much fun I found in learning! Traveling to theater festivals, performing
on carnivals helped and exploring the open heartedness of humans, transformed
my life.
On 2002 I published “Ocho Veces Tu Nombre” a poetry Plaquette
designed by Maria Elvira Dieppa. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mariaelviradieppa/.
During that time I cofounded SACO, an artist collective, which focused
on addressing social/political issues through physical theater, music,
comedy and poetry.
I performed with different theater companies in Barranquilla such as
“Arte en produccion”, “Groupo de Teatro de la Universidad
del Norte”, “Ahi Macondo” and acting for the TV channel
Senal Colombia.
Experimenting with life I found myself drinking from an empty cup, reaching
a dark bottom. This is when I had my first spiritual awakening and I
started to honor my true path by devoting my life completely to the
Ritual of Performing Arts.
This impulse gave me the strength to leave my loved ones and move to
Chicago to be trained as a clown by the Pocket Circus Clowns from Argentina
and do stage work internships with Red Moon Theater. I moved to San
Francisco to continue my formal training in the circus arts. I received
my diploma in 2009 from The Clown Conservatory at San Francisco Circus
Center, while also working with Circus Pandemonium and training at The
Flying Actor Studio.
